BBC Weatherman gives the finger live on air...

Something you don't see too often on breakfast TV...especially not from the BBC...
...love the way he tries to cover up his blooper when he realises that he's been caught live on air..

Ice Cream is a serious business..

This reminded me of an old episode of 'The Peter Kay Thing' comedy show where something similar was shown...this is the real life version...
Mister Softee's ice cream truck owner gets into a fist fight with the driver of another ice cream truck over a turf dispute on West 60th Street near Columbus Circle in Manhattan, New York.

The Wilhelm Scream

The Wilhelm scream is a frequently used film and television stock sound effect first used in 1951 for the film 'Distant Drums'. The effect gained new popularity after it was used in 'Star Wars' and many other blockbuster films as well as television programs and video games {it is currently used in the video game 'Red Dead Redemption'}.
You've heard this scream many times before, and here it is again...

Three amazing photos of Lewis Payne (a.k.a. Lewis Powell) in April 1865...

These three, amazing for the time period, views of Lewis Payne (a.k.a. Lewis Powell) in April 1865, were taken three months before his execution by hanging - he was 21 years old...
He was executed for his attempt to assassinate the then USA Secretary of State William Seward at the same time as John Wilkes Booth shot President Lincoln...

more on the story of his life and death *here*

..click on these pictures for a much higher resolution, which are really worth viewing considering they were taken 145 years ago...

A Slice Of Life

I know there are lots of similar projects like this all over the net, but this is the most epic effort I have come across...
U.S. artist Karl Baden began taking photographs of himself in 1987...one a day, every day...and every day since !!...thats 1987 to now...he is still doing it each day right now.
...the same setup was used for all the photographs taken: a single camera, with a tripod, strobe lighting and a white backdrop...they were almost always the same, his face on the center, under the same lighting conditions, with minimal expression and distinct indicators of mood and/or personality.
He did miss one day though...on October 15, 1991 when he was running late for a class he was teaching....apart from that, it's been one photograph of himself every single day...
Every now and then he compiles them together and exhibits them like this, this being the most recent...a two minute, twenty-three year document of his ageing face..

The Great James Finlayson...

One of the unsung heroes of cinema history, having been cast into the shadow of Laurel and Hardy, in whose films he is best remembered for...
...a bit of trivia...Finlayson had an often-used catchphrase - "D'oh"....which was later used by the creators of The Simpons as Homer's famous catchphrase...

Here is a great little tribute to him I found on YouTube...

Elvis Presley and Jacqueline Feilich - I've lost you

Who is Jacqueline Feilich ?...Well, she is generally regarded as the best female Elvis impersonator there has been...and she really is quite good...she doesn't try and sound like Elvis {well, not too much anyway}, instead using her own style, and it works well...

Woman tied up by robber sends out an SOS with her toes using a laptop..

39 year old Amy Windom, from Atlanta, USA was tied to her bed and hit over the head with a gun by an armed bugler who went through her belongings and then stole her car. She spent about four hours in panic, and then {in her own words}...

"Around 4:15 or so, I realized that he had left my laptop at the foot of my bed. I flipped my legs over my head and turned off my alarm clock so my radio wouldn't be blaring and block me from hearing anybody walking by that might be able to help me, and I was like, ‘wow, I guess I can do more than I thought with my feet,'" so I dragged my laptop over with my feet and I pried it open."
After struggling to simultaneously push the control, alt and delete keys to unlock her computer, "the wifi popped right up and it was a wonderful moment when I had the screen and realized my internet connection was live," she said. "I was worried that the guy had cut my phone line, so I was worried that I wouldn't have an internet connection."

Windom managed to send a message to her boyfriend to call the police who then arrived a few minutes later...

...but...police are investigating the break-in further to make sure the account is not a fabrication.....decide for yourself...

Look how busy the actor Danny Trejo is...

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001803/

..he's completed 11 films since 'Machete' {due out soon and looking most good from the trailers} and 'Predators'...and is at the moment working on 4 more !!...and he is 66 years old !!

..while i'm speaking about him...here is a short film he made with
Nik James, who I follow on YouTube....he's a fan of Nick's stuff and did this to help him get noticed...

..they describe it as.."a film noir made about a transient caught between reality and schizophrenia"..

DELIVER ME TO HELL - An interactive zombie adventure

A short zombie film that lets you decide how it plays out...this short film is split into sections, each one a youtube video, at the end of each one you are given a choice as to which direction the film goes...
If you like 'Shaun Of The Dead' you may find this a little similar...

Kila in Ballyshannon

went to see 'Kila' play in Ballyshannon, Co Donegal yesterday....what a superb place Ballyshannon is for outdoor gigs, I dont think I have been to another town so suited for that...
Kila are maybe best described as a fusion of Irish Tradional music and Rock music, and the result is a real thrill to hear live.
This is some shaky footage i got from one of my favourite tracks of theirs 'The Skinhead Reels'...it gets into gear about 2 mins in and really takes off at full pace around 3 mins in....(again, this isn't great camerawork)...

A really disturbing picture from the cover of the latest 'Time' magazine...

This is Aisha, a 19-year-old Afghan woman who was sentenced by the Taliban to have her nose and ears cut off for running away from home because of abusive in-laws...the torture was carried out by her husband and his brother in nearby mountains and she was left to die, but she survived....(she was 18 at the time).
She's obviously a very pretty young woman and hopefully she will get reconstructive work done with the help of Time magazine....
It really is amazing what can still happen in some parts of the world in 2010...

A memory of New York...

While on a trip to New York a few months back, I came across this gentleman while waiting on the subway...he was just one of the many instances of musical talent I stumbled upon around the subway stations...he was happy for me to take my phone out and record him, which sent me home with this wonderful memory...

One day life will be as simple as this...

A vision of the future from 1969...

A free, no-install, reliable way to block adult content being accessed on your computer

It's a question I get asked a lot from people due to the PC Repair work that I do....I have in the past recommended K-9 software as it was free and did a good job of what it was supposed to do, I still do recommend it as it has a lot of features which are controlled by a password of your choosing...i.e, if you wanted to access a site that was blocked by the software, you can over-ride it temporarily with your password.
Open DNS also has a good free service called 'FamilyShield', and in their case no software at all has to be installed, just add a couple of DNS server numbers to your network adapters properties...if that sounds a little daunting then this video guides you through it....or read a guide and more info *here*
It should be noted though, that although the Open DNS solution is simple, someone can very easily remove the DNS entries with sufficent knowledge.

The I.P's to be added to your DNS {for Open DNS FamilyShield} are -

A few facts on the American penal system..

I found this posted on another blog that I have been frequenting recently {headrambles}.
It's a segment taken from the BBC programme 'QI'....and the presenter, Stephen Fry {always interesting}, goes with the light entertainment / comedy flow of the programme but yet makes everyone stop in their tracks with the information that he gives on the subject been spoke about.
He gives a lot of facts and figures here in a short time about the American penal system which are very thought-provoking...
